Sunday 10th March.

In the UK it was Mother’s Day, but this year it was a double celebration, as it was also my eldest daughter Michelle’s birthday. Rather apt I thought to be celebrating the two occasions on the same day, so it called for a family get together.

There was a slight problem though as Michelle lives one hundred and fifty miles away on the south coast, so it wasn’t just a matter of popping out to a local restaurant.

“Why don’t we meet halfway”ย was the suggestion, which explains why at 1.30pm we were heading down the M40 towards Abingdon in Oxfordshire for lunch.

Such perfect timing, we had only been parked up for a few minutes when Michelle turned up, having left Portsmouth at the same time.

It wasย the first get together we’d had since Christmas,ย we ate, we chatted, we exchanged pressies and raised our glasses (yes, that’s my favourite tipple in the photo) to each other.

It was one of those occasions that you wish could have continued long into the night, but the time went far too fast, and wasn’t long before we were wishing each other a safe journey and setting off back home.

A long way for a meal?…..yes I guess it was, but it was certainly worth doing, and something we have decided we ought to do more often.IMG_3919

  1. Excellent “lunchtime” entries. It is a long way for lunch but wonderful that you all were able to travel to meet up and celebrate ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you, it was a long way for lunch, but we really don’t have enough family get togethers, we all agreed we need to do it more often.

  2. Good to see Debs decided against the bikini ๐Ÿ˜€ The first thing I noticed on the photo was the Peroni! A nice couple of photos, and a far more interesting lunchtime submission than some of the other boring ones with a take-away sandwich. The grey works quite nicely for this I think as it pushes the header photo into prominence.

Now I’m hungry. Or maybe I just need a beer!!

    • LOL ๐Ÿ˜€ That would definitely be a case for locking her up.
I thought you’d notice the Peroni, though it does take quite a prominent place in the photo ๐Ÿ˜‰
It was a totally different experience for me to travel over 70 miles for lunch, but it was well worth it.
As soon as I uploaded the post and saw the grey, I just had to laugh, though I blame T and the stripes in his jumper ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. What better lunch than to spend with family! Worth the travel

  4. how lovely that you were all able to meet up together as a family. happy belated mother’s day & birthday! mother’s day is celebrated on the second sunday in May in my corner of the planet. in any case, meeting halfway was just the way to do it. time spent with family is always worth the distance travelled to get together, isn’t it? and the road to family is never long ๐Ÿ™‚

this is a nice, warm, grey actually, and certainly better than Mustard! that’s one colour you have been managing to avoid quite nicely.

enjoyed this post. thanks for sharing.

    • I’d guessed it was a different month on your side of the Atlantic when I kept getting Mother’s day reminders from Yahoo (I think).
You’re correct about the road to family, it was an enjoyable journey too.
LOL, yes, I’ve managed to escape the mustard, but I think thats probably because I didn’t start this blog until after the grey became the new mustard ๐Ÿ˜‰
I’ve been hit quite a few times with grey though ๐Ÿ˜†
