The Juxtaposition of two contrasting objects, images, or ideas is the fact that they are placed together or described together, so that the differences between them are emphasized.

Not a word I”d heard before, but hopefully this might fall into the catagory.

These two images that I have placed together were taken with my iPhone through the windscreen of T’s car as we travelled up to Yorkshire last week, hence the quality isn’t as good as it could be.

The image on the left is of Penny Hill Wind Farm near Rotherham, Yorkshire, and is visible from the junction of the M1 and the M18.

The image on the right is of Ferrybridge Power Station near Knottingley, Yorkshire beside the A1.

The old and the new, both generating power in their own way.

  1. Nice one. I like the old and the new. Perhaps I should do a Pippa Snowy juxtaposition. OK it was the first one that came to mind because it’s so easy to turn any photo thing into a dog one.

Didn’t know there was a wind farm in Rotherham, we went round one in South Cumbria back in our Newcastle days, really interesting. Reminds me, must ask what has happened to my shares in the Renewable Energy Fund or whatever it was called that I subscribed to in my idealistic days.

The light blue works nicely I think. Now to off and think of something for the topic that is not two dogs together 😀

    • The wind farm hasn’t been there that long, I’ve only noticed it in the last year.
I’d never heard the word Juxtaposition before, but when I looked it up, the two images seemed perfect, and an unusual blue from DT too 🙂
I wait expectantly for yours 😉

  3. What a great example. Love the blue sky color. Soothing. Despite the fact that you used a cell phone camera this pic came out looking darn good. Amazing apparatus. 🙂

    • Thank you Yvonne 🙂

I love posting on the Duotone theme because it chooses the background colour and it’s always a surprise. Obviously from the blue sky this time, but it doesn’t alway choose what I’d expect. The sky was a lovey blue that day, quite a change from the depressing grey 🙂

My iPhone is quite an old one now, the later versions have a far superior camera, but yes, it does cope quite well.

  6. An excellent example of juxtaposition – well done!

    • Thank you 🙂
Oddly the two photos weren’t taken for any particular reason, they were just two images that caught my eye. I hadn’t even realised they had the ‘power’ link until I started looking for something for this theme.
